COUNTY ADMINISTRATION

March 18, 2020 - We have formed a 2 team approach to continuity of operations.  Our office has restrictive measures in place to reduce public exposure.  These measures avoid face to face contact as much as possible but still provide our services.

Effective tomorrow, the 2 team approach is as follows:  Teams are created by sharing responsibilities to the extent possible, working on a 7-day rotation (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) so that 100% of the team is not exposed at the same time, if exposure should occur.  While working remotely, employees are available to staff, to be on call if they are needed to come in, and responsible for position work tasks that can be completed remotely.  They are to submit daily updates on productivity while working remotely.  Additionally, all are in agreement that they will be utilizing this time to limit exposure opportunities and are to report any symptoms, if and as they experience them so that new protocols can be incorporated into the plan.  Everyone is responsible for assisting with sanitizing the office at the end of the day so that we return to a sanitized area in the am.

March 16, 2020 - We appreciate you stopping by today, however; in order to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees, we have implemented the following procedure to limit exposure to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).  These measures will remain in place, in accordance with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.

ALL visitors shall remain in the lobby area and are restricted from having access to the work area of the office. The work area shall remain ONLY of County Administration Staff.

Staff will be available via telephone for you to call from the lobby. A telephone is available for you to dial the extension of the appropriate person.  If you need assistance, please dial extension 2500.

If you are sick or have any symptoms associated with the common cold, influenza, or COVID-19 (Coronavirus), please do not enter the office.  Staff reserves the right to request that you vacate the premises if you are showing signs of illness.

Thanks for your cooperation at this time.

Susan M. Adams
County Administrator

SHERIFF

March 18, 2020 - To the Citizens of Appomattox County,

I am asking  deputies to  use social distancing  and personal protective equipment to  minimize exposure. Deputies have been told not to go into homes unless necessary. If a deputy comes to your residence on a call they may ask you to step outside to speak with them. They may also be seen wearing mask, gloves or other protective equipment. This is for your protection as well as theirs.

Deputies may ask that property, and nonviolent reports be taken by phone. You should still always call 911 for all emergencies and rest assured we will respond.

Unfortunately, we also have to suspend the inmate roadside clean- up program at this time. I assure you I will get them back out there as soon as possible.

We also will be restricting access to the interior of the Sheriffs Office. Deputies may limit you to the lobby or outdoors to speak with them.

I am committed to keeping your deputies healthy and safe so that they are able to serve you.  Together we will get through this challenging time.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at 434-352-2637.

Donald D. Simpson, Sheriff
