The Solid Waste Management Department provides recycling and waste disposal services for the residents of Appomattox County and the towns of Appomattox and Pamplin. One of our highest priorities is to provide a clean, convenient and safe place for the citizens to dispose of their waste.
The Solid Waste Management Department is operated in accordance with the Appomattox County Solid Waste Code.
Appomattox County is a member of the Region 2000 Services Authority. We transfer our solid waste to the Regional Landfill located in Campbell County. In an effort to keep costs down, we compact our solid waste at the convenience centers and encourage all citizens to recycle as much as they are can. Many of our recycle items are collected at the convenience centers, brought to the Waste Management Department, baled and sold. This saves on disposal costs and produces revenue.
There are seven convenience centers located in Appomattox County. The convenience centers accept small loads of waste from residents of Appomattox County and the towns of Appomattox and Pamplin. Large loads of waste are not accepted at the convenience centers and may be taken to the regional landfill. There is a per ton charge for all materials taken to the regional landfill. You may call the Regional Landfill at 434-455-6086 to check on the current charge amount.
All convenience centers have an attendant on duty to assist residents with the proper handling of recyclables and disposal of waste. If you require assistance, please notify the attendant, they will be happy to help you.
We do not provide residential pick up of solid waste.
