- Operating and maintaining the County's Emergency Communications Center
- Creating and maintaining street addressing within the County, including installing street signs and address markers
Emergency Communications Center
Located in the Public Safety Building, the Emergency Communications Center is a 24-hour staffed public safety answering point offering enhanced emergency 911 call support for both traditional land lines as well as cellular devices. Dispatchers answer both emergency and non-emergency calls for a variety of public responder agencies including:
- Appomattox County Sheriffs Office
- Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department
- Appomattox County Rescue Squad
- Pamplin Volunteer Fire & EMS
- Appomattox County Animal Control
Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
Also located in the Public Safety Building is the Appomattox County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), a dedicated central command and control facility responsible for carrying out the principles of emergency preparedness and emergency management at a strategic level during an emergency. The EOC also ensures the County's continuity of operations during an emergency incident.
