There are a variety of youth programs being offered in Appomattox County.  The programs require pre-registration for classes.  Some of the programs ask for payment ahead of time.  If you find an activity you are interest in, the link you click on will tell you where to sign up at, when, & how to pay.

2018 Karate Classes

Karate classes are taught at the Appomattox Community Center year round.  The class is for ages 6 & up on Wednesday evenings & will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the school year.  The instructor is Kim Magruder, Ms. Magruder is a Certified Instructor with a Second Degree Black Belt.  Fee: $25.00 per month, must be paid in advance to the Appomattox Recreation Department.  For more information call 434-352-5996.

Spanish Classes

Spanish Classes will be offered from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays for ages 8 - 12 starting in March.  The cost for each class is $8.00.  For more information, please contact Jane Raymond at 434-941-6416.  

Folk Art Class

Learn a little of the history of Folk Art while enjoying a 3 week art class.  Students will explore patterns, shapes, colors, as they paint their design on to a round wooden board they can make for their home.  Suggested age group is 10-12, but not mandatory.  There will be 3 sessions, 1 1/2 hours each on Thursdays from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. starting on March 1, 2018.  Fee is $30 & all materials included.  Classes will be held at the art studio of the new Geneva Christian Leadership Academy located at 222 Harrell Street, downtown Appomattox.  You must register by February 22.  For more information or to register, contact Jane Raymond at or call 434-664-9416.  

Teen & Adult Leader Training

A teen & adult leader training class will be offered at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center March 3 - 4, 2018.  The class will teach camp counselor 101 & 201 for teen & adult volunteers.  Topics covered will be managing youth behavior, camp communication, camper supervision & care, risk management & many other topics.  Please call 434-248-5444 for more information.

Pre-School Story & Craft Time

Join the Jamerson Memorial Library staff for pre-school Story & Craft Times on Wednesdays starting at 11 a.m.  A staff member will read a simple story to be followed by a craft project that reflects the story.  This is a great way to introduce your toddlers to reading & help them gain the skills they will need to enter daycare or kindergarten, teaching them the basics of sharing, socialization & setting up a love of reading & education.  Once a month we will try & host a "Mommy & Me Math Moment", as math plays a huge role in learning to read.  Be sure to follow us in the local newspapers & on our Facebook page for upcoming events like Story & Craft Time, photos of past events, or the latest announcements.

The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy

The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy offers many extra curricula classes & various alternative educational programs for the community throughout the year.  Options include music & art programs & exhibitions, history, theology, literature, Christian economics, math tutoring & more.  Special speakers & events are periodically arranged.  Homeschooling families are encouraged & welcomed! 

Student ages range from pre-K through college level.  Class times vary, including some after school hours.  Many high-school & college-level courses are available on-campus or live on-line.  New programs are now being formulated for the fall.

AJ Skateworld

AJ Skateworld offers skating on Friday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. & on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Admission is $6.00 with $1.00 skate rental for each session.  AJ Skateworld offers Fund Raising events, Birthday Party Packages, Special group rates for private rental & Learn to Skate Lessons.  For more information call 434-534-7055 or 703-623-7354 or you can e-mail

Tutoring Classes By Sylvan

Sylvan Learning is opening a Satellite Learning Center in Appomattox. Utilizing academic space on the campus of Appomattox Christian Academy, 1916 Redfields Road, located behind the rescue squad. Sylvan will provide instruction on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons & Saturday mornings. Led by Sylvan's licensed instructors & using our new digital learning platform with iPad technology, each student's interactive lesson keeps them engaged & focused. It also makes learning cool. All Sylvan programs are open enrollment, allowing a family to begin or end a program at any time. Competitive & assessment scholarships are available. Initial programs include: Academic Reading (2nd grade through 12th grade), Math Essentials: (2nd grade through 7th), Math Essentials for Pre-Algebra: (6th & 7th grade), Sylvan Advanced Math: (support for Algebra 1). Appomattox Soccer Association 2018 Sign-Ups

A.Y.S. 2018 Baseball & Softball Sign-Ups
