Adult CPR & First Aid Classes/HCP & CPR

Folk Art Class

Learn a little of the history of Folk Art while enjoying a 3 week art class.  Students will explore patterns, shapes, colors, as they paint their design on to a round wooden board they can make for their home.  Suggested age group is 10-12, but not mandatory.  There will be 3 sessions, 1 1/2 hours each on Thursdays from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. starting on March 1, 2018.  Fee is $30 & all materials included.  Classes will be held at the art studio of the new Geneva Christian Leadership Academy located at 222 Harrell Street, downtown Appomattox.  You must register by February 22.  For more information or to register, contact Jane Raymond at or call 434-664-9416.  

Oil Painting Workshop

YOGA Classes

Appomattox has a new Yoga Studio.  Yoga by Challenger Fitness is holding various types of classes including Beginners Yoga, Flow Yoga, Power Vinyasa, Kids Yoga, BARRE Training, Boot Camps, Themed Yoga & Private/Couples Yoga.  Every class includes a free clean towel & a free water after the class is over.  We look forward to seeing you in a class.  For more information on the class schedules call 434-414-2620.

Trail Walks

 Appomattox Court House National Historical Park announces two trail walks in January as part of the healthy Parks Healthy People partnership.  Join park staff for a Birding Walk on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. beginning at the Appomattox (River) Wayside Pull Off.  On Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. the park will host a Dog Walk, beginning at the Lee's Headquarters Pull Off.  Both pull offs are located along Route 24, Old Courthouse Road, inside park boundaries.  Trail walks are part of the Healthy Parks Healthy People partnership between Appomattox Court House National Historical Park & the Virginia State Parks Central Region.  

Sun Bonnet Sues Stiches

Monday, January 29, 2018 starting at 10 a.m., the Sun Bonnet Sue Stitchers will meet in the conference room of the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library, on Main Street in Appomattox.  They are a knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing & cross stitch group that meets every other Monday, to exchange patterns, teach skills & share in good conversation.  If you are interested in learning or sharing, we encourage you to attend.  

Decoy Carving Workshop

A duck decoy carving workshop will be held at the Holiday Lake 4-H Center March 4 - 8, 2018.  First time carvers will carve & paint a Canvasback duck, one of the most popular of all decoys.  Returning students will carve & paint a decoy of their choice.  For more information call 434-248-5444.

Banjo & Mandolin Building Workshop

You have your choice of building either a banjo or a mandolin.  Classes will be held at the Holiday Lake 4-H Center March 25 - 30, 2018.  The class will be taught by Don Kawalek who will provide instructions & kits.  For more information call 434-248-5444.  

History Trail

If you are a nature enthusiast and/or you enjoy hiking then you are in luck!  Appomattox Court House National Historical Park offers a 4.5 mile long wooded & scenic trail stretching from the North Carolina Monument wayside to Lee's Headquarters.  Throughout the year various events take place on the park's trail.  If you are a trail runner, the park offers fun runs.  Distances vary but the average distance is three miles.  All ages & abilities are welcome.  Also, the park offers nature walks which take place on one of the loop trails.  Schedules & times for these events vary from month to month.  

Appomattox Heritage & Recreational Trail

This trail is a 1.3 mile long trail that runs from the Appomattox Community Park over behind the History Junction Shopping Center.  The trail is great for hiking or biking.

Holliday Lake State Park Trail

The park has several hiking trails, including a connector trail to the 10.2 mile Carter Taylor Multi-use Trail for hikers, bicyclists & horseback riders.  The park offers hikes in the park throughout the year.  For more information call 434-248-6308.

Academic Cafe

Want somewhere to relax and read a book or do some research?  The Academic Cafe located in the New Geneva Leadership Academy offers relaxing areas to sit, inside and out.  Visit their book store and extensive research library.  Hi-Speed internet access is available.  The cafe also offers a snack bar as well.  Located at 222 Harrell Street, downtown Appomattox.  Open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Boating Safety Education Classroom Course

Chalk Painting

Learn how to distress furniture by using the chalk painting technique.  Classes are held at Nina Bells Cottage, located on the corner of Isbell Street and Court Street, Appomattox.  All materials are furnished  To find out the next class date, contact Denise Mays at 434-352-7510.  Cost of the class is $35.00.


Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America & now you can play here in Appomattox.  It is a combination of tennis, badminton & ping pong, using an oversized paddle, a whiffle ball & played on a mini-tennis court.  Games are played at the Grace Hills Baptist Church gym on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 12 noon, Tuesday nights at 5:30 p.m. & on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m.  Contact Linda Peters at 434-993-9336 or Debbie Booze at 434-352-5438 for more information.  

 The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy

The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy offers many extra curricula classes & various alternative educational programs for the community throughout the year.  Options include music & art programs & exhibitions, history, theology, literature, Christian economics, math tutoring & more.  Special speakers & events are periodically arranged.  Homeschooling families are encouraged & welcomed!

AJ Skateworld

  Triad Community Senior Program

Triad is a one hour program for Seniors held at 1:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at the Appomattox Community Center.  The program brings seniors & law enforcement together to interact & discuss awareness programs in the community and educates seniors about safety and how to reduce crimes that seniors experience.  Individual speakers come in each month & present a different topic.  Scheduled meetings for 2018 are, February 27, April 24, June 26, August 28, October 23 and December 11.  For more information contact the Appomattox County Sheriff's Department  434-352-8241.

Central Virginia Alliance For Community Living, Inc.

 Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program

This program is designed for older adults to help strengthen your muscles, improve flexibility, boost your mood & self-confidence.  Join the group at  Grace Hills Family Life Center every Tuesday & Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. for lots of fun & exercise.  Fee is $20 a month.  For more information call Linda Peters at 434-993-9336.

 Painting with Christine

Paint a beautiful 12x16 picture you can take home the day of your class.  No painting experience needed.  The cost of the class is $60, all supplies are furnished except for paper towels.  The next scheduled classes for 2018 are as follows;  February 27, March 20, April 24, May 22 & June 19 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Appomattox Community Center.  To view a picture of the painting that is scheduled, go to Christine's web page at
