Teen & Adult Leader Training
A teen & adult leader training class will be offered at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center March 23 - 24, 2019. The class will teach camp counselor 101 & 201 for teen & adult volunteers. Topics covered will be managing youth behavior, camp communication, camper supervision & care, risk management & many other topics. Two Weaving Workshops are being offered at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center. This is a great beginner's course, as well as, a good refresher for those with previous weaving experience. The workshops will be held April 14 - 17, 2019 & October 20 - 23, 2019. Banjo Building Workshop
This is a beginner workshop designed for adult participants. Class is limited to 10 participants. Meals & lodging for the entire workshop are provided. Class will be held at the Holiday Lake 4-H Center April 14 - 19, 2019 The class will be taught by Don Kawalek who will provide instructions & kits. Healthy Parks & Healthy People
Appomattox Court House National Historical Park & six Virginia State Parks in the Central Virginia Region have created the Healthy Parks, Healthy People program for community members & park visitors. The initiative encourages people to spend more time recreating outdoors on their public lands, to increase awareness of the national & sate parks, encourage stewardship of these special places & promote the park's importance in tourism & economic development in their communities.
The program is a partnership of seven parks including Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, Bear Creek Lake State Park, High Bridge Trail State Park, Holliday Lake State Park, James River State Park, Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park & Twin Lakes State Park.
*Visit one of the seven park's Visitor Centers & pick up a Healthy Parks Healthy People passport booklet. These booklets contain information about the trails at the seven parks, as well as, to hold your stamps.
*Walk one of the trails at the park & stop in the Visitor's Center to receive a stamp specific to that park in your passport booklet.
*Visit each of the parks, walk a trail & receive a stamp to complete your booklet.
*Mail the completed Healthy Parks Healthy People booklet to Appomattox Court House NHP, P.O. Box 218, Appomattox, Va. 24522. Once Submitted, you will receive a commemorative patch to recognize you walked at all seven parks & you will be entered into a drawing for special prizes, including a National Park Pass & a Virginia State Parks Pass.
Appomattox has a new Yoga Studio. Yoga by Challenger Fitness is holding various types of classes including Beginners Yoga, Flow Yoga, Power Vinyasa, Kids Yoga, BARRE Training, Boot Camps, Themed Yoga & Private/Couples Yoga. Appomattox Court House National Historical Park offers a 4.5 mile long wooded & scenic trail stretching from the North Carolina Monument wayside to Lee's Headquarters. Throughout the year, various events take place on the park's trail. If you are a trail runner, the park offers fun runs. Distances vary but the average distance is three miles. Appomattox Heritage & Recreational Trail
This trail is a 1.3 mile long trail that runs from the Appomattox Community Park over behind the History Junction Shopping Center. The trail is great for hiking or biking.
Holliday Lake State Park Trail
The park has several hiking trails, including a connector trail to the 10.2 mile Carter Taylor Multi-use Trail for hikers, bicyclists & horseback riders. The park offers hikes in the park throughout the year. For more information call 434-248-6308.
High Bridge Trail State Park
The High Bridge Trail is 31 miles long & ideally suited for hiking, bicycling & horseback riding. You can access the trail at the Heights School Road just off U.S. Business 460 near Pamplin. For more information, call 434-315-0457 or Email email@example.com.
Want somewhere to relax and read a book or do some research? The Academic Cafe located in the New Geneva Leadership Academy offers relaxing areas to sit, inside and out. Visit their book store and extensive research library. Hi-Speed internet access is available. The cafe also offers a snack bar as well. Located at 222 Harrell Street, downtown Appomattox. Open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Boating Safety Education Classroom Course

Learn how to distress furniture by using the chalk painting technique. Classes are held at Nina Bells Cottage, located on the corner of Isbell Street and Court Street, Appomattox. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America & now you can play here in Appomattox. It is a combination of tennis, badminton & ping pong, using an oversized paddle, a whiffle ball & played on a mini-tennis court. Games are played at the Grace Hills Baptist Church gym on Tuesdays & Thursdays. at 12:00 noon & on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. It is free to play, paddles & balls are provided. The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy
The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy offers many extra curricula classes & various alternative educational programs for the community throughout the year. Triad Community Senior Program
Triad is a one hour program for Seniors held at 1:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at the Appomattox Community Center. The program brings seniors & law enforcement together to interact & discuss awareness programs in the community and educates seniors about safety and how to reduce crimes that seniors experience. Individual speakers come in each month & present a different topic. Scheduled meetings for 2019 are, February 26, April 23, June 25, August 27, October 22 & December, this date will be announced at a later time. The Central Virginia Alliance For Community Living, Inc. is an agency that offers senior services to citizens in Appomattox County, such as, transportation and nutritious meals. Hunter's Education Class (Free)

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program
This program is designed for older adults to help strengthen your muscles, improve flexibility, boost your mood & self-confidence. Join the group at Grace Hills Family Life Center every Tuesday & Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. for lots of fun & exercise. Classes are held monthly, fee is $20 a month. Painting with Christine
Paint a beautiful 12x16 canvas picture you can take home the day of your class. No painting experience needed. The cost of the class is $60, all supplies are furnished except for paper towels. The scheduled classes for 2019 are as follows; February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7 & June 4, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Appomattox Community Center.
