Appomattox County Planning Commission is seeking input from citizens concerning policies and procedures for managing growth in our county. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Appomattox County. Please complete the survey and return it to the County Administration office at 153A Morton Lane, Appomattox, VA 24522.

The Planning and Zoning Division is responsible for the general administration of the County’s Zoning, Subdivision and Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinances. The overarching goal in the administration of these ordinances is to develop the type of community that is reflected in the Community Development Plan. Our vision is to have a community that preserves the natural beauty and historic character of Appomattox County, while providing a vibrant and sustainable economic base so that the average citizen may achieve a high quality of life personally, professionally, and socially.

Services Provided:

Guiding citizens through the plat approval process.

Assisting citizens in gaining zoning approval.

Providing compliance reviews for proposed commercial development activity.

Advising the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Keeping citizens advised of the status of all land use and planning initiatives.

Enforcing all zoning and land use codes.

Preparing short and long range planning studies for community planning areas, transportation corridors or other special study areas.

Planning Commission Scheduled Public Hearings:

The public is hereby notified that the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors and the Appomattox County Planning Commission will conduct a joint public hearing on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center, located at 220 Community Lane, Appomattox, Virginia to consider: CUP08002-Guaranteed Network Services, Inc. and CUP08003-Guaranteed Network Services, Inc. Draft Zoning Ordinance:

The original Zoning Ordinance for the County of Appomattox was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 1988. Since that time, planning and zoning techniques have changed tremendously. Periodic reviews of planning tools such as the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance are necessary in order to manage growth in the County. One of the objectives of the Community Development Plan is to revise the Zoning Ordinance to more accurately implement the County’s land use goals. The Appomattox County Planning Commission is currently considering a revision to the Zoning Ordinance. Public input at this stage of the review is greatly appreciated.
