Credit Policy
Appomattox County will extend credit to those approved businesses that have
a five year credit history without any bankruptcies, judgments or history
of slow payments to creditors. No individual accounts will be issued. A completed
application with references will be required to open an account. The Landfill
Supervisor will approve applications. All accounts will have a predetermined
credit limit.. Credit limits can be reviewed and adjusted higher or lower
by the Landfill Supervisor as necessary for good business practice. Once
the credit limit has been met, the customer will revert to a cash only customer.
The Landfill Supervisor or County Administrator may waive such reversion
there will be a $20.00 charge for any returned checks.
Late Charges
Customers which have not paid their balance in full within 3 0 days of the
statement date will be charged a monthly late payment charge of 1.5% of their
outstanding balance. In addition, credit charging privileges may be revoked
after a customer incurs a second consecutive late charge without paying the
balance in full.
Low Activity Accounts
Any customer that does not have a charged transaction within a 6 month period
will revert to a cash customer only customer. If credit charging privileges
are revoked because of low activity, a customer is encouraged to reapply
for credit as necessary to meet future needs.
Cash Only Accounts
Any customer that has credit charging privileges revoked, late payments or
low activity must pay all future transactions by cash or check. The County
will reconsider a credit application after five years once the account of
a charge customer has been revoked for late payments.
Collection on Late Paying Accounts
If an account balance is not paid in full within 90 days, the account
will be turned over to a collection agency. All collection and legal costs
will be added to the balance on the account.
Commercial Haulers
All commercial haulers must complete a commercial haulers application and
pay an annual license fee as outlined in code section 139 7 of the Appomattox
County Ordinance. The Landfill Supervisor or the County Administrator will
approve applications.
Scale Tickets
Charge account customers should instruct their drivers to give them scale
tickets, as copies of scale tickets are not sent with statements. All requests
for scale tickets must be in writing. There will be a $2.00 charge per copy
for tickets. This charge will be added onto your next monthly billing statement.
Interpretation
The County Administrator shall be responsible for the interpretation of these
policies.
