Appomattox County utility providers offer reliable service at extremely competitive rates. For information on rates, service areas, special discounts and other topics, please contact the provider as listed below.

Electricity

Appomattox County is served by three electric utilities providing some of the most competitive electric rates in the nation.

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative

Dominion Virginia Power
For new service, call (888) 667-3000.

Southside Electric Cooperative

Natural Gas

The franchise to serve all of Appomattox County belongs to Columbia Gas of Virginia. The company is supplied by two major natural gas pipelines (Williams/Transco and Columbia) and offers service to industrial customers.

Water

The Town of Appomattox offers public water to customers within the Town as well as to a limited number of customers outside the Town’s corporate limits. The Town of Pamplin serves customers only within its boundary.

Sewage

The Town of Appomattox offers pubic sewer service to customers within the Town as well as to a limited number of customers outside the Town’s corporate boundary. The Town of Pamplin does not currently offer public sewer service.

Solid Waste/Landfill

The Appomattox County Landfill is located on Route 634 (Morningstar Road) east of the Town of Appomattox. The landfill operates 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. For information on landfill tipping fees, recycling, disposal of hazardous materials, location of trash collection centers, and other solid waste issues, contact Alice Rockefeller, Landfill Supervisor, at (434) 352-8184.

Communications
Telecommunication services include the following:

  • Mid-Atlantic Broadband is currently installing a state-of-the-art fiber optic network in Southside and Southwest Virginia.  A Point of Presence (POP) at the Appomattox Center for Business and Commerce will serve as a major hub linking this system with the Internet capital of the world -- Northern Virginia.  Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
  • Verizon has a fiber network that offers SONET self-healing rings, digital switching capabilities and access to long-distance carriers. This network supports voice, video, and data communications. For more information, contact the Verizon Business Office at (800) 483-2000.
  • Williams Communications long-haul fiber lines traverse the County.
  • Jet Broadband offers digital cable television and digital modem service.  For more information, please contact the Jet Broadband Business Office at (434) 845-1932.
  • Dial-up Internet access is available through several regional and national companies which provide toll-free numbers for low-cost access.
  • DirecTV and other satellite providers offer an alternative to cable TV and dial-up modems, particularly in areas not served by cable.
  • Wireless broadband is available in select parts of the County through a variety of providers.
  • Several cellular and wireless phone provider serve Appomattox, including U.S. Cellular, ALLTEL, Intelos, and Nextel
