Appomattox County is fortunate to be home to one of the nation’s most historic sites, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, scene of the surrender of General Lee to General Grant at the end of the American Civil War. However, other attractions await your visit, including museums, vineyards, rural villages, picturesque farms, Victorian mansions, and quaint Bed & Breakfasts. For the shopper, antique and craft stores line Main Street in Downtown Appomattox. For the outdoor enthusiast, Holliday Lake State Park offers swimming, camping, hiking, picnicking, boating and fishing, while the scenic James River and the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest both provide their own unique brand of excitement.
