The Appomattox County Public Schools provides top-notch instructional programs that prepare the young people of Appomattox County for an easy transition to the workforce, college or technical school.

The public schools emphasize a well-rounded education while providing strong opportunities for vocational training through

  • A variety of Occupational Technologies (OT) programs, including Culinary Arts and Horticulture.
  • Participation in the state’s second largest apprentice program
  • Participation in a “Tech Prep” consortium that connects high school OT programs to programs at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) to streamline a student’s advancement into post-secondary vocational studies
  • Dual enrollment plans that enable high school students to take college classes, and
  • Governor’s School for Science & Technology, a regional learning center that hones students’ skills in the sciences.

Nuclear Technology Services Program

New for the 2006-2007 School Year is the Nuclear Technology Services curriculum being taught in conjunction with Central Virginia Community College. Funded by Areva and BWXT, leaders in the nuclear industry and major employers in the Appomattox region, this program is the first of its kind at the secondary level in the United States.
