Vision Statement
The Appomattox Community shares a common vision of a prosperous future built upon a strengthened and diversified tax base, the upgraded capacity of public services, and the enhancement of those characteristics that support the family and that help form the fabric of our daily lives. Success will be achieved by emphasizing the community’s strengths and opportunities, including its history, location and work ethic, while mitigating weaknesses and threats by dealing with issues in a planned and prioritized manner

About the EDA
The Economic Development Authority of Appomattox County (EDA) is the body responsible for economic development activities within Appomattox County. The powers granted to such authorities by the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, are extensive and include:

  • The ability to enter into contracts
  • The ability to acquire and dispose of real property
  • The ability to lease and collect rent
  • The ability to issue bonds
  • The ability to borrow money, and
  • The ability to make loans or grants to promote economic development.

The EDA has seven directors, each of whom is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to a 4-year term, with the terms of the various directors being staggered to prevent the total turnover of the body at any given time. The EDA is the owner of the Appomattox Center for Business and Commerce, the County's only public industrial/business park, but works with industrial prospects interested in locating anywhere within Appomattox County.

Working through the Appomattox County Department of Economic Development, the EDA eases the process of locating to or expanding within Appomattox County. The EDA recognizes that confidentiality and flexibility are hallmarks of successful economic development efforts; therefore, the members strive to meet business needs in a low-key professional manner that allows the employer adequate latitude to make informed and unpressured decisions. Allied with the EDA in marketing Appomattox County to the business world are the Region 2000 Economic Development Council and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership. The EDA is also very supportive of existing businesses within the County and strives to keep abreast of their needs through formal visits and informal meetings.
