The County Attorney is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the Board of Supervisors.  The County Attorney’s role is to advise the governing body and all boards, departments, agencies, officials and employees of the locality on a variety of legal matters.  These matters include:

• interpreting ordinances;
• drafting or preparing of new ordinances;
• defending or bringing actions in which the local government or any of its boards, departments or agencies, officials or employees shall be a party;
• entering into contracts;
• prosecuting violations of the Uniform Statewide Building Code, the Statewide Fire Prevention Code and all other ordinances as may be agreed upon with the Commonwealth’s Attorney
