Law Enforcement Deputy Sheriff -- The Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a qualified candidate for Law Enforcement Deputy Sheriff. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides law enforcement for Appomattox County;
  • Be a representative of the sheriff;
  • Report to shift supervisor and/or other ranking officer;
  • Answer and investigate complaints of the citizens;
  • Provide traffic enforcement for Appomattox County;
  • Conduct criminal investigations and follow up on complaints;
  • Prepare written reports accurately and timely;
  • Prepare cases to present and make court appearances as necessary;
  • Serve civil process and other legal process;
  • Execute criminal warrants;
  • Conduct crime prevention patrol to include checking security of buildings;
  • Perform office maintenance at discretion of a supervisor;
  • Ensure routine maintenance of assigned vehicle is performed;
  • Ensure assigned equipment is maintained in operational readiness;
  • Perform any other duties designated by a supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Age of 21.
  2. High school graduate or equivalent.
  3. Passing a written examination.
  4. Passing an extensive background investigation, to include adrug screen
  5. Passing an interview.
  6. Passing a physical examination
  7. Be of good moral character.
  8. Any other standards set by law (Virginia Code 15.2-1705) or by policy of the Criminal Justice Services Board.
  9. Possess a valid Virginia operators license

The minimum starting salary for this position is $31,009annually.

Animal Control Officer –P/T position (32+ hours/month).  Responsibilities include: Enforcement of local and state laws and ordinances regulating the keeping, control and protection of animals within the County; investigating complaints; maintaining records & files, overseeing the disposition of animals throughout the County.  Applicant must be able to take call in the evenings & some weekends.  A valid Virginia Driver’s License is required.  A Criminal record and driver’s record check will be conducted.   Applications may be obtained from the Office of the County Administrator, 153A Morton Lane; Suite A, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the County’s website:  Completed applications must be returned to the Office of the County Administrator prior to 4:30 p.m., Monday, November 5th , 2017.
